Deterioration marked by garbage, damaged artificial grass, and shattered glass at the old football stadium
In the heart of Cuneo's Parco della Gioventù, the Five-a-Side Stadium has fallen into disrepair due to a mix of factors, including lack of maintenance funding, decreased community use, and potential administrative challenges. The stadium, situated near Stadio del Nuoto and Casa del Fiume, has been closed since July 2022 and its synthetic grass fields are damaged.
For the past three years, no one has taken over the management of the stadium since the expiration of Davide Nerattini's concession. Nerattini, who built the stadium at his own expense, occasionally visits the site to check on its condition. He finds it sad to see the stadium's current state, suggesting at least the grass could be cut.
Councilor Giancarlo Boselli inspected the stadium on Monday, August 4, and Councilor for Sports Valter Fantino is now discussing the Palafluviale project with Cuneoginnastica. The project, which involves building a new gym in place of the Five-a-Side Stadium, has passed the first phase of the "Stars" tender opened by the Fondazione Crc.
The promoters of the project hope to recover resources through other tenders and the Pnrr. The official presentation of the project is scheduled for September, and a fundraising campaign will be launched.
Meanwhile, Councilor Fantino is evaluating the project and believes it could be an excellent prospect for Cuneo's gymnastics, the sports society, and the city. However, he is concerned about the lack of respect for public property and the waste of municipal resources on patches for unused structures.
It's worth noting that the nearby women's football fields of Freedom are well-maintained. For the most accurate and updated information, checking with the Cuneo municipality’s official communications or local news sources would be advisable, as these plans can evolve with time and circumstance.
- The current state of the Five-a-Side Stadium, which has been a beloved spot for football in Cuneo's Parco della Gioventù, significantly deviates from the average standard of sports facilities in the city, given its disrepair and closure since July 2022.
- Despite the disheartening state of the Five-a-Side Stadium, the nearby women's football fields of Freedom stand as an exemplary model of well-maintained sports facilities, showcasing the potential for improving football amenities in Cuneo.
