Details on Charlie Kirk's funeral service
Charlie Kirk, the influential conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, will be remembered at a memorial service this Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The event, which is expected to attract numerous American leaders, will be a significant test for law enforcement, particularly the Secret Service.
The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. MT (1 p.m. ET). Notable speakers include President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Kirk's widow, Erika. Other speakers include Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard, Donald Trump Jr., Tucker Carlson, advisors Stephen Miller and Sergio Gor, and Erika herself, who has been appointed as the new CEO of Turning Point USA.
Musical performances will be provided by prominent Christian contemporary musicians such as Chris Tomlin, Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, Kari Jobe, and Cody Carnes. Turning Point USA has signaled that attendees should expect TSA-level screening, and bags will not be allowed inside.
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a campus event at Utah Valley University 11 days before the memorial. The federal government has no information indicating a verified, credible threat to the event. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating on planning and security for the memorial, with the Glendale Police Department, which has experience hosting large events, having met with the Secret Service to plan for the memorial.
Given the attendance of high-profile individuals and the media attention the event is likely to receive, extremists may view the memorial service as an attractive attack target. To mitigate this risk, security measures have been put in place, and attendees are required to register through Turning Point USA. Parking will be free.
Overflow seating will be available at Desert Diamond Arena, and the event will be livestreamed on Kirk's Rumble account. Traffic in and around Glendale will be impacted, and some intersections will be closed during the memorial. State Farm Stadium, where the memorial will take place, hosted Super Bowl LVII in 2023.
Under normal circumstances, State Farm Stadium falls under the jurisdiction of the Arizona Department of Public Safety. However, for this special event, it has been given a Level 1 special event assessment rating, the highest such designation. Despite the heightened security, the memorial service promises to be a poignant and moving tribute to a man who made a significant impact on conservative politics in America.
