Detailed Insight into the 2025 US Open Tournament

The U.S. Open, one of the most anticipated events in the tennis world, is set to begin on Sunday, August 24th. Before the main tournament, Fan Week will take place, offering free and open access to qualifying matches that started on Monday and run through Friday.

For those planning to attend, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, is just a train ride away. The No. 7 subway line from Manhattan and the Long Island Rail Road are convenient options for getting to the venue.

This year, the U.S. Open takes on a new twist with the introduction of a novel mixed-doubles format. This high-profile event, featuring top ATP and WTA singles stars, will be held on August 19-20, ahead of the main tournament. Matches will be best-of-three sets with sets won by reaching four games, no-ad scoring at deuce, and a 10-point match tiebreak if sets are split. The final will revert to traditional six-game sets with a tiebreak in lieu of a third set. The matches will be played exclusively on the two biggest stadium courts, Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong.

The increased demand for tickets for this event has led to elevated prices compared to previous years. However, grounds-pass tickets for the first week of the U.S. Open offer access to the upper deck of the Louis Armstrong Stadium, the grandstand, and the outer courts.

During the first week, the Grandstand has less crowded concession stands compared to the food court near Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong Stadiums. Various food options, including ice cream from Van Leeuwen, pizza from San Matteo, and Greek food from King Souvlaki, are available at the U.S. Open. For those seeking a taste of the city's diverse culinary scene, downtown Flushing, one train stop away, offers some of the best Chinese and South American food in New York City.

Several top players are expected to make a strong showing at this year's U.S. Open. Aryna Sabalenka is the favourite to win the women's singles competition, while Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, could meet in the final, marking their third consecutive major finals encounter.

Notable players to watch include Amanda Anisimova, who had a terrific run to the Wimbledon final, and Victoria Mboko, an 18-year-old Canadian who won the Canadian Open this month and will be making her first major tournament appearance on hard courts at the U.S. Open.

Meanwhile, Coco Gauff, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, lost to Mboko in the round of 16 in Canada. Despite winning the French Open in June, Gauff has lost three of her next five matches, including in the first round at Wimbledon. Novak Djokovic, who turned 38 in May, won the last of his record 24 major titles at the 2023 U.S. Open but has not played competitively since Wimbledon.

The women's singles final will be played on Sept. 6, and the tournament ends on Sept. 7 with the men's singles final. The U.S. Open is the last chance for the world's top tennis players to win a major title this year.

Ride-share services like Lyft and Uber are options, but can be lengthy, pricey, and subject to surge pricing and congestion. Grounds passes for a Fan Fest will be offered during finals weekend, making it an exciting time to visit the U.S. Open.
