"Bohemian Rhapsody," the song that made Queen a household name, became a global hit, making the band known not just in the UK, but in America, Australia, and everywhere. The song topped the UK charts for a then-record nine weeks in late 1975 and hit the #1 spot in multiple countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. It even returned to the top of the UK chart in 1992 following Freddie Mercury's death.
Brian May, Queen's guitarist, stated that "A Night At The Opera" was a hugely important album for the band. He also mentioned that the album opened up the world for Queen and allowed them to try anything. Roger Taylor, Queen's drummer, added that they were at the peak of their confidence during the making of "A Night At The Opera." Taylor also described the album as an eclectic one with a mix of madness, wonder, and a bit of everything.
Roger Taylor believed in "Bohemian Rhapsody" from its inception, and the music producer responsible for the recording of Queen's album, Roy Thomas Baker, ensured that the song's unique sound was captured perfectly. "A Night At The Opera" has reportedly sold over 11 million copies, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.
The next issue of Classic Rock magazine will feature an official "A Night At The Opera" sticker, poster, and art card. The magazine will be available online from Magazines Direct and on UK newsstands from October 10. For those who can't wait, the digital edition is available now.
