On a Monday morning, August 18th, a man in Taunusstein-Bleidenstadt, Germany, accidentally started a hedge fire at approximately 11:10 AM using a Bunsen burner. The incident occurred in Theodor-Heuss-Straße.

The man was using the Bunsen burner to kill weeds at the time of the incident. However, sparks from the burner landed on an adjacent hedge, causing it to immediately catch fire. The man was able to safely evacuate the area before the fire department arrived and alerted them about the hedge fire.

The police of the Rheingau-Taunus district reported the incident, but no further details about the man or the extent of the damage have been provided. The hedge sustained significant damage, estimated to be several hundred euros. The fire department successfully controlled and extinguished the hedge fire, but no information about the extent of the damage beyond the hedge has been reported.

This incident serves as a reminder about the potential dangers of using open fires or gas burners for weed control, especially during the summer months. When using Bunsen burners or propane torches for weed control, it is crucial to follow safety guidelines to prevent fires.

Key safety tips include operating in dry, calm weather conditions, keeping a water source or fire extinguisher nearby, wearing protective gear, igniting and controlling the flame carefully, avoiding using the torch near flammable materials, not leaving the flame unattended, and using the tool selectively to target weed bases.

Learning proper torch operation before starting is also important to ensure safety and efficiency. Dry vegetation is easily flammable and can catch fire from just a few sparks, so it is essential to take precautions to prevent such accidents.
