A Gutting Blow for Sascha Korte
Despite the termination of the Bergring, the most captivating grass racetrack in Europe, distant spectators remain enthusiastic.
Got some upsetting news, y'all? Sascha Korte's heart is heavy as he heard the rumors of no racing machines accelerating over Teterow Hill Racecourse this Pentecost! The festivities without the traditional motorsport event just don't sit right with the 47-year-old. Teterow isn't his hometown; he hails from Heiden, a humble town near Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia. However, he fell head over heels for Teterow thanks to his spouse, who is from the motorsport town, and the one-of-a-kind hill racing scene.
Catching the Hill Racing Bug, 1999
Back in 1999, a visit to Teterow left an indelible mark on Sascha. The hill racing track was like nothing he had ever seen before, captivating him with its unique terrain, electric atmosphere, and that unmistakable methanol scent. From that moment, he promised himself that he'd never miss another race. "One Hill Race, forever a Hill Race" – that's his motto. During the festivities, he claims the best spot with his pals and family, camping out in the inner ring, offering a front-row seat to all the action and a superior view of the starting and finishing line.
Pentecost Vibes, Regardless
Though the adrenaline-filled Hill Race won’t be there this year, Sascha plans to still make his annual pilgrimage to Teterow with his loved ones, packing some snacks and reminiscing about the phenomenal experiences they’ve shared at the track. Crossing his fingers that the cancellation is just for this year, and things will go back to normal in 2026.
A Little Corner of Hill Racing at Home
Being such a dedicated fan, Sascha loves bringing a taste of hill racing to his house. He transformed an old shed into a "Teterow corner," housing a bunch of keepsakes from past races, such as posters, flags, scarves, and collectible cards. It's almost become a mini-museum.
Simon Wigg Autograph: The Piece de Resistance
His pride and joy? An autograph from Hill Racing legend, Simon Wigg. Though he didn't get the chance to see Wigg race live, he owns all the trading cards and, of course, the autograph of this iconic, successful driver. Sascha fully believes in the Hill Racing's future, expressing his hope that the powers that be will take responsible steps to preserve this event in the coming years, giving him more memorabilia to add to his museum.
Despite the cancellation of auto-racing events at Teterow Hill Racecourse this Pentecost, Sascha Korte remains hopeful and plans to relive past memories with his loved ones, reminiscing about the electric atmosphere and unique terrain of the hill racing scene. His home transforms into a little corner of hill racing, with an old shed housing memorabilia from past races, including a cherished autograph from Hill Racing legend, Simon Wigg.
