In a press conference held in Vienna's Volksgarten, Leonore Gewessler, the designated Green Party leader, officially announced her run for the leadership of Werner Kogler's parliamentary group.

Gewessler, who has shown a strong ideological focus on environmental protection, expressed great humility in succeeding Kogler, calling his footsteps 'huge.' She stated that Kogler was a great captain from whom she can learn a lot.

In her new role, Gewessler wants to continue engaging in climate protection with an 'activist heart.' She emphasized the importance of independent decisions about work in her approach to women's policy.

Gewessler's political ambition stems from her desire to improve the world and fight for a better future. She is driven by the deep conviction that her party must do everything to ensure a better future for children.

The Green Party, under Gewessler's leadership, will continue to focus on climate protection but also aim to provide answers to new challenges. Security policy is one of the central topics Gewessler has named.

Gewessler has shown determination to confront challenges head-on, rather than being discouraged by them. She has called the Lobau Tunnel a 'billion-dollar grave' in a debate in the National Council. In a 'urgent question' during the Lobau Tunnel dispute, she challenged the current President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka.

The Greens, under Gewessler's leadership, will not submit to foreign blackmail, whether from US President Donald Trump or Russian President Vladimir Putin. The far-right chancellor was barely prevented from forming, but the details of this event are not extensively discussed.

Gewessler aims to make the Green Party's ideas more understandable to the general public. She sees the unstable world situation as a motivation to engage at the top of the Greens. The current government's program with the FPÖ is being continued, and Gewessler views the Green Party as a constructive opposition.

As Gewessler takes over the leadership, she wants to make changes within the Green Party, as they may have overlooked what people expect from them. She is determined to lead the party with a clear focus on climate protection and a commitment to addressing new challenges.
