Designer Estelita Huijer avoids jail after turbulent legal battles with ex-partner
Fashion designer Estelita Huijer has avoided jail after resolving a series of criminal charges over the Christmas period. The case centres on her turbulent relationship with Sydney restaurateur Andrew Becher, which ended in 2024 but led to multiple legal battles.
Huijer pleaded guilty in December 2025 to breaching apprehended violence orders (AVOs), drug possession, and other offences. She received a two-year community correction order and fines, with no further court dates scheduled.
Huijer’s legal troubles began years earlier. In June 2021, she was first issued an AVO to protect Becher, her former partner. Their four-year on-and-off relationship produced a child but ended in 2024. A second two-year AVO was imposed in March 2024 after further incidents.
Throughout 2024 and 2025, Huijer was arrested multiple times for breaching AVOs and other offences linked to Becher. Charges included assault, theft, fraud, trespassing, vandalism, and drug possession. While the fraud charge was later dismissed, she faced fines for drug offences and violating a 2024 community correction order. In December 2025, Huijer admitted to three AVO breaches and drug possession. The court handed down a two-year community correction order, warning that any offence before December 16, 2026, would breach the terms. Becher, who owns Sydney restaurants Franca, Armorica, Pelicano, and the newly opened Le Frérot (October 2025), has remained largely silent on the matter. Huijer was previously known for her four-year relationship with rock musician Daniel Johns, which began in 2013 after his departure from Silverchair. Her recent legal issues, however, have overshadowed her earlier public profile.
Huijer’s sentence means she will serve no jail time unless she reoffends before late 2026. The community correction order and fines mark the end of her current legal proceedings. For now, she remains free of further court obligations.
