Designer Denies Dressing Singer Rosalía Amidst Her Alleged Silence on Gaza Conflict, Prompting a Response from the Musician

In the midst of a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 2 million people are fully dependent on food aid and at risk of acute malnutrition, Spanish pop music superstar Rosalía has addressed criticism over her lack of public statement on the issue.

Rosalía, known for her powerful voice and innovative music, has been facing scrutiny from some quarters for not speaking out about the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Last week, designer Miguel Adrover publicly refused to work with her, citing her silence on the issue of Palestine.

In a series of Instagram stories, Rosalía responded to Adrover's criticism, acknowledging that she lives in constant contradiction but tries to do the right thing. She expressed her condemnation of the situation in Palestine, but did not provide a specific statement.

Rosalía also expressed her gratitude for those who take action, such as NGOs, activists, volunteers, healthcare workers, laborers, cooperatives, associations, and journalists. She emphasized that shaming each other is not productive in the fight for Palestinian freedom.

The United Nations (UN) has described the situation in Gaza as a "humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions." Israel cut off aid in March, leading to mass starvation in Gaza. As of late July 2025, one in three people in Gaza are currently going without food for days at a time.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has spoken out about the situation, warning that Gaza is "on the brink of famine." UN officials have called for immediate, massive increases in humanitarian aid, a permanent ceasefire, and political measures to end the ongoing occupation and violence.

For those who wish to help, information on how to do so can be found here. Children's YouTuber Ms. Rachel has also stated that she will not work with anyone who hasn't spoken out about Gaza.

Rosalía's response via Instagram stories was translated from Spanish. Miguel Adrover admires Rosalía for her talent and achievements, but believes she should use her platform to denounce the genocide in Palestine.
