The Desert Vipers have made a significant move in the upcoming season of the DP World ILT20, with the signing of West Indian cricketer Shimron Hetmyer as their wild card pick.

Hetmyer, a Twenty20 specialist, has played in multiple global T20 leagues, including The Hundred, Pakistan Super League, Indian Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket, and the DP World ILT20. In the ILT20, he has primarily represented the Gulf Giants, scoring a total of 666 runs with an impressive strike rate above 150. He has hit 48 fours and 33 sixes, totaling 390 runs in boundaries across three seasons.

His aggressive batting and boundary-scoring prowess have made him a consistent high-impact performer in the league, with notable highlights such as a powerful innings of 70 runs from 35 balls against the Desert Vipers in season one and a crucial hard-hitting half-century that secured a top-two finish for the Gulf Giants in 2025.

Tom Moody, the Director of Cricket for the Desert Vipers, considers Hetmyer to be highly rated and is pleased to secure his services. "Shimron is a proven performer in this league, and I believe he will be a valuable addition to our team," Moody said.

Hetmyer, who has caused trouble for the Desert Vipers in the past, is excited about joining the team he has fiercely competed against. "I'm thrilled to be a part of the Desert Vipers. I believe my arrival could be the final piece needed to win our first title," Hetmyer stated.

The Desert Vipers have finished runners-up twice in the first three editions of the ILT20 but are still chasing their maiden championship. With Hetmyer's addition to the team, they are hopeful of breaking the streak and securing the title in season four.

The Desert Vipers have also retained or signed several key players, including Lockie Ferguson, Wanindu Hasaranga, Sam Curran, Max Holden, Dan Lawrence, David Payne, Khuzaima bin Tanveer, Andries Gous, and Hetmyer himself.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming season, fans and experts alike are eager to see how Hetmyer will perform for the Desert Vipers and whether he can help them claim their first championship.
