Deputized officer within L.A. County's sheriff's department apprehended for a second time, accused of domestic violence.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Devoe was released from jail early Tuesday after posting a $50,000 bond, following his arrest Monday on suspicion of felony domestic violence, according to the sheriff's department. The 30-year-old deputy, who had been placed on leave in January 2023, was accused of corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant in the latest incident, which occurred in Lancaster at 4:10 p.m. on Monday.

Two years prior, Devoe was arrested and charged with physically abusing his 5-year-old son. He pleaded not guilty to a felony count of child abuse in June 2023, a month after the issuance of a protective order requiring him to avoid any contact with the child. According to the L.A. County district attorney's office, Devoe had told his son's mother via text that the child hurt himself while riding his bike, but when she picked him up from Devoe's home, there was serious bruising and swelling on the child's face. Medical professionals and the boy's other brother reportedly told sheriff's department investigators that Devoe had punched the child.

An attorney representing Devoe, Sharon Paris Babakhan, declined to comment on his latest arrest, stating that the pending matter had caused significant personal and professional losses for him. However, in an email regarding the 2023 case, Babakhan had previously stated that she had negotiated a favorable resolution with the District Attorney, expecting both felony charges to be dismissed in favor of a single misdemeanor count, with the expectation of closing the matter on July 1, 2025.

The sheriff's department relieved Devoe of duty three months before his 2023 arrest, due to several allegations of misconduct, including the possession of illegal steroids, according to documents and law enforcement sources interviewed by The Times at the time. A department statement issued last week stated that Devoe had been relieved "of duty pending the outcome of an internal administrative investigation."
