'Department of Motor Vehicles' Secures Additional 7 Episodes for Upcoming Series
The single-camera comedy series DMV, created by Dana Klein, is set to continue its run on CBS. The show, which follows the lives of employees at a Department of Motor Vehicles, has been well-received by the network and has received a back order decision to keep the show in continuous production.
The series, which premieres on October 13 at 8:30 p.m., stars Harriet Dyer and Tim Meadows, alongside Molly Kearney, Alex Tarrant, Tony Cavalero, and Gigi Zumbado. Trent O'Donnell executive produced and directed the pilot of the DMV series.
DMV started as an off-cycle pilot that tested and screened well, eventually earning two backup scripts before receiving a series order in April. The series is produced by Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling's TrillTV, and CBS Studios.
The show is based on Katherine Heiny's award-winning short story and follows employees as they make minimum wage and deal with annoyed customers. The series is a comedy, offering a humorous take on the often frustrating experience of visiting the DMV.
CBS is pleased with the output of the DMV series so far, and has ordered a full season of 20 episodes for the comedy. The production of the series was extended to 20 episodes early by its producers, but the specific producer name is not clearly identified in the search results.
Interestingly, both the DMV series and The Neighborhood, which the series follows in its premiere, are produced by Kapital Entertainment. Additionally, Kapital has a long-running drama, The Chi, at CBS sibling Showtime.
With its unique premise and talented cast, the DMV series is sure to be a hit with audiences. Tune in to CBS on October 13 to catch the premiere of this new comedy series.
