Farewell to the Icons of NDR: Bidding Adieu to Carlo von Tiedemann

The airwaves of Northern Germany have been left hollow, as the nation's dear friend and long-time broadcaster, Carlo von Tiedemann, has bid us farewell. A beloved presence in the lives of many, his passing has left us reeling, with NDR Intendant Joachim Knuth summing it up best: "If there ever was an 'NDR institution,' it was Carlo von Tiedemann. His casual, off-the-cuff, and warm-hearted demeanor resonated with countless generations, and he remained an audience favorite until the very end."
Carlos Ferdinand Hanns-Joachim Franz-Friedrich, born on October 20, 1943, in Stargard in Pommern, spent more than five decades of his life entwined with the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR)[1][4]. His remarkable career began in 1971, and from that point on, he was an unforgettable fixture in the NDR's radio and television programs.
Radio held a special place in von Tiedemann's heart throughout his distinguished career. From his early days on NDR 2 to his stint on the Hamburg local station NDR 90.3 with his hit segment "Carlo kennt sie alle…," he remained steadfast in service to the airwaves[5]. His extensive radio tenure was marked by an additional show on NDR Schlager and a foray into the brand-new realm of podcasting, furthering NDR's reach into innovative media formats.
Beyond the airwaves, von Tiedemann was a tireless aficionado of social causes, using his platform to support numerous charitable organizations[5]. His unwavering dedication earned him the Federal Republic of Germany's Medal of Merit in 2020. He also served as an ambassador for the children’s hospice "Sternenbrücke" in Hamburg.
Von Tiedemann was more than just a radio and TV personality; he was the cherished face and voice of Northern Germany[2][4]. His content had a unique ability to captivate the hearts and minds of his audience, making him an emblem of the region's broadcasting culture. In remembrance of this exceptional individual, the NDR remembers with deep gratitude all that he has brought to the organization, a heavy blow that will forever be felt.
So, hasta la vista, dear Carlo von Tiedemann. You will never be forgotten, nor will your iconic presence in the hearts of the people and the airwaves of Northern Germany. Rest in peace, dear friend. You have left us with memories, stories, and a love that will never fade.
