Denzel Washington Reflects on Awards and Career in New Interview

Denzel Washington, the 70-year-old Oscar-winning actor, has shared his candid thoughts about awards like the Oscars in a recent interview. In a conversation on the podcast "Jake's Takes", Washington revealed that he doesn't prioritize these accolades, stating, "I don't do it for Oscars. I don't care about that kind of stuff."

Washington's career spans over three decades, and he has been nominated for numerous awards throughout this time. He won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1990 for the drama "Glory". However, he also mentioned situations where he felt he didn't deserve an award and instances where he thought he should have won one. He didn't disclose any specific details about these situations.

In the same interview, Washington also spoke about his role in Spike Lee's new film, "Highest 2 Lowest". This is Washington's latest project and marks his collaboration with Lee for the first time since the 2000 film "Bamboozled".

Washington's statements about awards reflect his perspective that awards are not the driving force behind his work. He believes that recognition from a higher power is more meaningful to him. He said, "Man gives the award. God gives the reward."

Last November, Washington expressed that he had spent more than a decade feeling sorry for himself and being "bitter" about the missed Oscars. However, in this latest interview, he stated that he no longer cares about awards like the Oscar. He added, "My trophies wouldn't mean anything to me on my last day."

In "Highest 2 Lowest", Washington plays the lead role. The thriller premiered at Cannes in May and will be available on the Apple TV+ streaming service from September 5. Washington's performance in the film is highly anticipated, and fans are eager to see his collaboration with Spike Lee.

Washington's candid and detached view regarding awards like the Oscars is a reflection of his focus on his craft and personal fulfillment rather than external recognition. His career is a testament to his talent and dedication, and his work continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
