Broncos' Offense Shows Mixed Results in Preseason Opener Against 49ers
In the first preseason game of the season, the Denver Broncos faced off against the San Francisco 49ers, with quarterback Bo Nix leading the offense. The performance of the team was a mixed bag, as Nix and the offense showed promise but also had some miscues.
During the joint practices leading up to the game, Nix demonstrated improvement and strong performances, particularly against the Arizona Cardinals. He spread the ball effectively and made big throws to multiple receivers in various drills, earning praise for his progress in training camp.
However, in the preseason opener, Nix's first game action of his second NFL season, the offense struggled to find consistency. The first-team offense managed just 56 yards on 18 plays, with Nix completing 6 of 11 passes for 31 yards. The team's only score came from a field goal, while one drive resulted in a punt and another in a safety caused by intentional grounding in the end zone.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Broncos started off strong against the 49ers offense but eventually "went cold late" against Kyle Shanahan's offense. While there is no detailed breakdown of specific defensive statistics in the sources, it is clear that the defense had moments of success early on but struggled later in the session or game.
Despite the ups and downs of the preseason opener, head coach Sean Payton remains optimistic about Nix's development and the team's potential moving forward.
