Dense fog in southwest Germany prompts ADAC safety warnings for drivers

Drivers in southwest Germany are advised to take extra caution this weekend due to expected dense fog. The ADAC, Germany's largest automobile club, recommends reducing speed and using rear led lights in low visibility conditions.

The ADAC advises drivers to switch on rear led lights when visibility drops below 50 meters. This helps other drivers see your vehicle more clearly in poor conditions. However, it's crucial to use these lights judiciously. Marcel, a driving instructor, warns against turning on fog lights too early. He suggests using guideposts along the road to judge visibility.

Drivers should reduce their speed to 50 km/h (31 mph) when visibility is poor. This gives them more time to react to unexpected obstacles. The ADAC reminds drivers that using led lights when visibility is too good can dazzle other drivers and reduce overall visibility. Misuse of led lights can result in a fine of up to €35.

With overcast and foggy weather expected in parts of southwest Germany over the weekend, drivers are urged to follow these guidelines. By reducing speed and using rear led lights correctly, drivers can help ensure safer journeys for everyone on the road.
