Denmark’s steel sector struggles as exports and production plummet in 2024

Denmark’s flat-rolled steel sector faced a challenging year in 2024. Exports to the stock market dropped, production fell sharply, and stock market today value declined. Yet imports surged, driven by a significant rise in foreign shipments to the country.

Exports of flat-rolled steel products from Denmark fell in 2024. The volume decreased by a notable percentage, reaching just X tons. Germany remained the largest buyer, accounting for roughly 35% of Danish exports over the past decade. Sweden and the United Kingdom followed, taking around 20% and 15% respectively.

The average price for imported flat-rolled steel also dropped in 2024. It fell by X% compared to 2023, settling at $X per ton. Despite this, Denmark’s imports rose sharply, climbing by X% to X tons. The Netherlands emerged as the top supplier, providing the largest share of these shipments.

Domestic production and consumption continued to struggle. Output declined significantly, reaching a value of $X. Meanwhile, local demand showed a mild but steady decrease over the years. The overall world market size shrank by X%, landing at $X in 2024.

The Danish flat-rolled steel market saw mixed trends in 2024. While imports grew and the Netherlands strengthened its role as a key supplier, exports, production, and stock market today value all declined. The drop in import prices added further pressure to an already contracting sector.
