Denmark secures its fourth Jerez Cup victory, reaffirming the triumph achieved in 2023.

Denmark's culinary team, Sdr. Bjert Kro, led by chef Emil Rask Bahr and sommelier Andreas Kobs Laursen, clinched the XI International Jerez Cup Final last Tuesday night. Held at the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, the competition brought together gastronomy powerhouses from eight countries: the UK, USA, Spain, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Mexico.

Our victorious duo scooped up not only the overall title but also the Best Dessert Pairing award. The UK took home the Best Chef and Most Creative Pairing honors, Spain secured Best Starter Pairing, and Mexico impressed with Best Main Course Pairing.

This unforgettable event took place before a star-studded jury, including international figures such as Josep Roca, Carlos Maribona, Sarah Jane Evans, Heidi Mäkinen, and Paco Morales. The contest was attended by nearly 600 guests, including food and wine professionals, invitees, schools, vineyards, and media.

It is worth noting that in 2023, the Danish team from Parsley Salon, led by chef Allan Schultz and sommelier Alexander Berntsen, snagged the X Jerez Cup, taking home their third victory in this esteemed international competition. They previously triumphed in 2019 and 2013, making Denmark a dominant force in the Jerez Cup arena.

Jerez de la Frontera transformed into the global epicenter of wine culture for two days, hosting top wine experts at its forum and the chefs and sommeliers of the finalist teams from eight different countries. The event was accompanied by a tasting spectacle featuring 30 wineries from the Jerez region, attracting up to 400 attendees seeking the flavors of Jerez and Manzanilla wines from bodegas such as González Byass, Tradición, or Emilio Hidalgo.

As for the motorsport scene in Jerez, there's the FIM JuniorGP at Jerez, part of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship[5]. A significant Superbike/Supersport World Championship event is scheduled for October 2024 at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto in Spain[2]. However, the Jerez Cup in question seems to lean more toward the culinary world.

In the midst of the wine culture extravaganza that turned Jerez de la Frontera into a global epicenter, a suggestion for an alternative event emerged – sports-betting tournaments could potentially be held alongside the culinary competitions, given Jerez's reputation as a host for motorsports events such as the FIM JuniorGP at Jerez and the upcoming Superbike/Supersport World Championship in October 2024. The victorious duo from Denmark's Sdr. Bjert Kro, having successfully defended their title in the Jerez Cup's culinary arena, could perhaps extend their competitive spirit into the sports-betting realm as well.
