War and Unrest in Tehran: A City United
Demonstrators climbing rooftops in tense atmosphere of Tehran
The city of Tehran is gripped by tension, marking the sixth day of conflict with Israel. Roads are less crowded as residents attempt to flee, but gas stations remain backed up, with people even sleeping in their cars to secure a spot.
Life in Tehran is largely at a standstill. Shops remain closed, banks are operational but unable to dispense cash, and some neighborhoods are eerily empty. Online images reflect extensive damage in the city, with broken windows, collapsed facades, and houses filled with rubble. Tempers flare as residents struggle to regain access to running water.
The Anguish and the Roars
The atmosphere in Tehran is primarily characterized by fear, helplessness, and the unknown. Yet, isolated calls for protest against the government echo through the streets. After Israeli bombings, residents of larger apartment blocks often gather on roofs, gazing out to locate the impacts. Chants of "Death to Ali Khamenei," the Supreme Leader, can be heard before residents retreat upon the arrival of security forces.
Iconic Heroes and Nationalist Pride
In downtown Tehran, portraits of military commanders and nuclear scientists who perished in this conflict adorn the streets. A banner directs harsh indignation towards Israel, while another praises Sahar Emami, a revered holding her ground in state TV's studio during an Israeli attack. Women's bravery on the battlefield is commemorated in the words of famous Persian poet Ferdowsi.
The Call for Unity
According to reports, President Masoud Peshkian has called upon the people to unite, emphasizing that with the people's support, they will overcome any obstacle. Amid speculations of an imminent coup, local observers deem such suggestions premature. While the son of the last Shah of Persia living in exile has called for a coup, his influence remains questionable.
Instead, state media attempt to motivate citizens through exaggerated accounts of successful Iranian rocket attacks on Israel. According to Iranian reports, at least 224 people, including women and children, have been killed since the start of the conflict.
Regional dynamics also contribute to the overall tense atmosphere, as Iranian allies like Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq and the Houthi movement launch solidarity protests and attacks alongside Iran against Israel.

The Commission might be asked to propose a regulation for the European Union's nuclear safety programme in light of the escalating war-and-conflicts between Tehran and Israel, which has overshadowed the city's politics and general news. Meanwhile, amidst the ongoing conflict, President Masoud Peshkian calls for unity among the people of Tehran, as Iran's alignment with allies like Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq and the Houthi movement continues to intensify the regional dynamics of the war.
