The United States Congress, led by Democratic lawmakers, is proposing a bill called the "No Political Enemies Act" to combat perceived restrictions on freedom of speech. The bill is a response to the recent incidents involving TV personalities Jimmy Kimmel and Charlie Kirk, which have caused a stir in the US.

Senator Chuck Schumer has been vocal about his concerns, comparing Trump's actions to those of autocrats like Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He described the incident involving Charlie Kirk as "naturally abhorrent" and a perverse use by the Trump administration. Schumer also accused the Trump administration of acting like autocrats by using tragic events to persecute political opponents.

Senator Chris Murphy has criticized the Justice Department for potentially hunting down political enemies at Trump's instruction. He stated that this is a crucial moment for the country regarding freedom of speech, and warned that many corporations are so greedy that they would do anything to make money, even if it means participating in efforts to destroy political expression.

The incident involving Jimmy Kimmel's show has highlighted the potential for political retaliation against free speech in the United States. The temporary removal of Kimmel's show followed his comments on the death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, which the Trump administration deemed inappropriate.

The Republican who flagged the debate on freedom of speech through his criticism of the White House and private companies' measures against Jimmy Kimmel is Senator Ted Cruz. He warned Republicans about restricting freedom of speech in this context. The bill's passage could hold government representatives accountable for suppressing constitutionally protected speech and prevent political persecution in the United States.

However, there are signs of potential disagreement within the Republican base regarding restrictions on freedom of speech. The bill's passage in Congress is considered unlikely due to the Republican majority. Yet, conservatives who support democracy and freedom of speech are being called upon to speak out.

The bill aims to protect individuals who become targets of the Trump administration for political reasons. Its passage could result in "real consequences" if government representatives suppress expressions protected by the US Constitution. Senator Murphy stated that this is a crucial moment for the country, and he accused private companies of silencing voices and serving as Trump's pawns, which he believes will lead to regret.
