Cops on the Hunt for Minnesota Political Murder Suspect

"Get your eyes peeled, folks," urges Drew Evans, chief of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, as they hunt for the suspect behind the chilling double murder of Melissa Hortman, a local political heavyweight, and her husband. This deadly incident took place during the wee hours of June 13th to 14th, 2025, in what governor Tim Walz labeled as "a deliberate act of political violence."

According to Evans, the perpetrator, identified as Vance Luther Boelter, a 57-year-old man, should be considered armed and dangerous. Boelter, last spotted early morning wearing a light-colored cowboy hat, was last seen on the run following an exchange of gunfire with the police.

The United States President, Donald Trump, and Attorney General Pam Bondi swiftly denounced this despicable act of violence, with Bondi emphasizing that such political terrorism will not be tolerated.

The crime comes at a time when tensions are running high in the country, with troops deployed in Los Angeles to control anti-government protests, a military parade in Washington, and nationwide "No Kings" rallies against President Trump.

Boelter, the alleged shooter, is believed to have left a trail of evidence in his car. Fliers advertising protests and a manifesto bearing a list of many elected officials, including Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman, were found in his vehicle. Hoffman, a Minnesota state senator, and his wife, Yvette, survived an attack that occurred in the town of Champlin at around 2 am on the same morning, but both were critically injured.

At around 3:30 am, as a precautionary measure, law enforcement encountered a man dressed as a police officer leaving Melissa Hortman's home in Brooklyn Park. This individual, allegedly Boelter, opened fire on law enforcement officers before managing to escape during the ensuing gunfight.

Extra security measures have been implemented for officials on Boelter's alleged target list. However, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, with Evans revealing that the investigation is still in its early stages.

Regrettably, Melissa Hortman, a 55-year-old mother of two who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2004, was among those tragically taken from us in this senseless act of violence.

"A life dedicated to serving the people of Minnesota, with integrity and compassion," wrote Senator Amy Klobuchar, expressing her grief and shock.

In these harsh times, we are reminded of the importance of maintaining peace and respect in our political discourse, as advocated by Governor Tim Walz who stated, "A calm political discourse is the foundation of our democracy. We don't settle our disputes with gunfire."

Recent history has seen several attempts on the lives of political figures. President Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband have both been targeted in violent attacks. Stay informed and, above all, stay safe.

"The ongoing manhunt for Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect in the political murder of Melissa Hortman and her husband, has sent shockwaves through the realms of general-news and crime-and-justice. This incident, deemed a deliberate act of political violence, has prompted discussions about the role of politics in such acts."

"As the investigation into Boelter's motives and potential ties to other violent political activities continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and respect in political discourse, as advocated by Governor Tim Walz."
