Democratic Candidate Woods' Past Republican Ties Spark Scrutiny
Marlene Galan Woods, a Democratic Congressional candidate, is facing scrutiny over her past political affiliations. Woods, who previously supported and funded Republican Jan Brewer's campaigns, has been accused of lying about her support for the former Arizona governor.
Woods, now a Democratic candidate, initially denied backing Brewer. However, a video has surfaced showing Woods standing behind Brewer on election night in 2010. Woods also co-chaired Brewer's 2009 campaign. During a debate, Conor O'Callaghan accused Woods of lying to voters about her past support for Brewer.
Woods' donation history also contradicts her claims. She donated to Brewer's 2010 gubernatorial campaign, a fact Woods initially denied. This revelation has brought Woods' past affiliation with the Republican Party back into the public eye, particularly with the recent passage of HCR2060, a measure compared to SB1070, which has revived Brewer's legacy.
Woods' past political ties are now under scrutiny as she campaigns for Congress. Her initial denials and the video evidence have sparked questions about her honesty with voters. Meanwhile, Congresswoman Val Hoyle has criticized Woods for her perceived hypocrisy in supporting Speaker Pelosi after previously supporting her defeat.
