Demise of Alfred Heer, National Councillor in Swiss politics, lamented broadly

Fredi Heer, a well-respected Swiss politician, passed away on September 19, 2025. The news of his sudden demise has left a deep impact on the political landscape of Switzerland.

National Councillor Benjamin Fischer (SVP/ZH) expressed his deep sorrow, describing Heer as an extraordinary person. Fellow politician Thierry Burkart (FDP/AG), the President of the FDP and Councillor of States, also offered his condolences.

In Zurich, the political community was equally shaken. Zurich SP National Councillor Fabian Molina was taken aback by the news, while Zurich parliamentary group colleague Nina Fehr Düsel held Heer in high esteem as a colleague.

The Green Liberal Party (GLP) was not left out. GLP National Councillor Katja Christ was touched by the sudden news of Heer's death.

Heer's long-time confidant and colleague in the Council of Europe and election observation missions abroad was Doris Fiala from the FDP party. Their close working relationship spanned many years.

Center-President and National Councillor Philipp Matthias Bregy (VS) and SP Co-President and National Councillor Cédric Wermuth (AG) also expressed their condolences for the loss of Heer.

FDP parliamentary group leader Damien Cottier (NE) appreciated Heer's ability to exchange ideas in friendship and respect. The political community in Switzerland continues to mourn the loss of this esteemed politician.
