Clubs in Thuringia are clamoring for state funding to modernize their sports facilities, with a combined request of 10.1 million euros for projects totaling 5 million euros in applications. This demand outstrips the 2 million euros allocated for grants in the 2024 budget, as revealed by the Ministry of Sport. With the state government seeking a balance between available funds and requirements, only some projects will secure funding.

For instance, SV Eintracht Berka/Werra aims to refurbish their bowling alley's run-up area for 8,000 euros, while SV 1872 Langenwetzendorf plans to roof the entrance area of a gymnasium at a cost of approximately 9,000 euros. The German Alpine Club in Weimar looks to add a bouldering hall to an existing climbing hall, and the Jena University Sports Club envisions converting ten tennis courts into year-round facilities for around 440,000 euros.

With the average project requiring around 53,000 euros in funding, the state sports association acknowledges the need for more substantial financial support - potentially doubling or tripling the current 2 million euros allotment in 2024. The association's spokesperson has emphasized that the increased demand for funding reflects the urgent need to update sports facilities across the state.
