Delving into the genesis of "No One Noticed" and "Back to Me" in an exclusive "Behind the Song" segment, Marías offers insights into the creation of these tracks.

In a recent development, indie pop band The Marias have released their latest single, "Back to Me," and have been sharing insights about their creative process at New York's Electric Lady Studios.

The song, a departure from their dance-oriented tracks, was inspired by vocalist Maria Zardoya's emotional state and the desire for a change in direction. The booming synthesizer sound and distorted guitar opening are the origin of "Back to Me," setting the tone for a captivating track.

Meanwhile, the band's breakthrough single, "No One Noticed," continues to garner attention. Written by Zardoya and collaborator Gianluca Buccellati during a period of uncertainty in 2020, the song boasts an unusual structure, with multiple choruses and no apparent verses. Drummer-producer Josh Conway agrees with producer Gianluca Buccellati that "No One Noticed" doesn't have a traditional chorus, a testament to the band's innovative approach to music.

The Marias' sound is a unique blend of shoegaze, Latin music, jazz, and other genres, resulting in a wash of gauzy textures, aquatic atmospheres, and midtempo grooves. Their music contains multiple layers and elements, including clouds of keyboards, heavily treated guitars, multitracked vocals, and various hard-to-identify sounds.

During their stay at Electric Lady Studios, the band provided an in-depth "Behind the Song" discussion, pulling up multitracks on the computer to show the writing, recording, and embellishment process of their songs. The group considers "Back to Me" to be their best song ever written.

In other news, Gianluca Buccellati is working on a forthcoming solo album under the name Not for Radio. Singer Maria Zardoya, on the other hand, claims she can come up with infinite melodies based on the chord progression of "No One Noticed."

With their latest single and ongoing work on their third album, The Marias continue to push the boundaries of indie pop, offering listeners a fresh and engaging sound.
