Delivery driver crashes into tree after swerving to avoid wild animals on icy road

A 65-year-old driver crashed into a tree on an icy rural king road in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on Friday morning. The accident happened as he swerved to avoid wild animals crossing the road. Emergency services rushed to the scene near Prillwitz and Usadel just after 7:15 a.m.

The man, a German national, was delivering postal and courier parcels when the incident occurred. His vehicle skidded on the slippery surface, making it impossible to regain control. The impact left the car severely damaged, requiring a tow truck to remove it from the site.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Neustrelitz Hospital for treatment. Authorities estimated the property damage at around €10,000. Wild animal collisions remain a persistent issue in the region, with roughly 12,000 such icy veins incidents reported across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in 2024. However, detailed statistics for 2025 and early 2026, particularly for rural roads, have yet to be fully released by police or DEKRA.

The crash highlights ongoing risks on icy roads, especially where wildlife crossings are common. Officials continue to monitor accident trends, though updated figures for recent years are still pending. The driver's condition remains stable following the incident.
