Workers Nabbed: Delhi Cops Bust Illegally Residing Bangladeshis
Delhi Police Apprehend Eighteen Bangladeshis, Including Families, During Intensive Immigration Enforcement
Delhi's North-West district cops have snared 18 Bangladeshi nationals, living unlawfully in the city, in a recent raid. This clampdown on unauthorized residents was carried out by the Foreigner Cell unit based on crucial intelligence inputs.
The operation, kicking off in the Bharat Nagar police station area, targeted three families thought to have melted into the Wazirpur JJ Colony after moving from Haryana. These families were knowingly eluding detection as they frequently shifted their location.
DCP North-West Delhi, Bhisham Singh, reported that the search covered 36 footpaths and 45 alleyways before yielding a single suspect. After grilling him, the suspect confessed to being a Bangladeshi national, triggering the cops to apprehend the remaining offenders.
Among the 18 individuals detained, six were adults, and 12 were kids, who worked as manual laborers. All were observed to lack valid documents, visas, or permits, violating the Foreigners Act, 1946, and other immigration statutes. During interrogation, four Bangladeshi national IDs and a smartphone featuring the outlawed IMO app were nabbed.
The police are currently conducting further examinations, aiming to initiate deportation proceedings for the workers-turned-outlaws. Earlier in the year, a 16-member Bangladeshi squad was arrested by the Shahdara District Police after they were spotted evading apprehension in Delhi's Seemapuri area.
With immigration issues becoming an increasing concern, India has been on a drive to enforce stricter measures to counter unlawful entries from neighbors like Bangladesh. Recent tweaks in regulations aim at tightening the borders and enhancing surveillance to suppress illegal infiltration that contributes to dwindling resources and national security threats.
