The stormy skies of Delhi-NCR gave way to a tempest of waterlogging, traffic snarls, and even fatalities at the break of dawn. According to the police, four unfortunate souls lost their lives, and one was seriously injured when a tree crashed down on a tubewell room in a farm in Kharkhari village, Dwarka.

Video Evidence:

The storm didn't spare India's busiest airport either. Airport officials disclosed that there were at least three diverted flights, and more than a hundred faced delays owing to the early-morning chaos at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

"The inclement weather in the city center led to delays in both incoming and outgoing flights. It's not just about three flights getting diverted; around 100 experiences delays,” an airport official stated.

"A plane was directed to Ahmedabad, and two others were diverted to Jaipur," another official from the airport confirmed.

"A SpiceJet flight from Leh, scheduled to land around 8 a.m., had to be cancelled. IndiGo too had to cancel its flights to Srinagar and Leh,” he further explained.

In spite of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert on the previous day, predicting thunderstorms with drizzle, and gusty winds of up to 50 km/hr, it escalated the warning to a terrifying red alert around 5:30 a.m. on the 2nd.

The updated red alert warned of significant rain, an extreme thunderstorm, and wind velocities of 70 to 80 km/hr, all set to persist until around 8:30 a.m.
