AAP Blasts BJP Over Flooded Streets in Delhi Post Heavy Downpour
Delhi Floods Review: CM Rekha Gupta Inspects Affected Main Roads; AAP Criticizes Administration
Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta inspected flooded areas of the capital on May 2, 2025, following a torrential rain that disrupted traffic and led to waterlogging.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Delhi, predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Gupta, along with public works department (PWD) officials, visited affected areas and ordered civic agencies to ensure the public wasn't inconvenienced.
"I've personally visited various parts of Delhi today, including Majnu Ka Tila, due to waterlogging caused by the rain. I'm working closely with the relevant officials to address this issue promptly," Gupta stated.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed sympathy for those affected and urged the CM and lawmakers to provide assistance.
Meanwhile, PWD and water minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma also inspected rain-hit parts of the city.
"Due to unforeseen record rainfall, water pooled at various locations in Delhi. From early morning, I visited several spots to evaluate the situation. At Minto Bridge, I found all four pumps functioning correctly, and the operator was alert," Verma said in a statement.
Politicians Trade Barbs
AAP leaders, seizing the opportunity, criticized the BJP government for their inability to effectively manage the city during the rains. Criticizing the so-called "four-engine" government (consisting of the BJP's rule at the Centre, Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and New Delhi Municipal Corporation), Manish Sisodia said, "Look at the current state of Delhi under BJP rule... all the engines and their components are busy fighting Arvind Kejriwal instead of governing efficiently."
Atishi, former Delhi chief minister and leader of the opposition, shared visuals of flooded roads and accused the BJP of focusing on political rivalries rather than addressing the city's issues. "Is this what the people of Delhi expected from the 4-engine BJP Government?" Atishi questioned.
Despite the criticism, the BJP has yet to publicly address these points. Previously, they had blamed the previous AAP government for negligence, claiming that the lack of desilting drains contributed to persistent waterlogging. However, no recent response addressing the AAP's criticism of the current BJP government's handling of the recent rainfall was reported.
