Delhi Capitals retain rising star Niki Prasad for WPL 2025 after breakout season

Delhi Capitals have retained Niki Prasad for the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) season. The team's management has shown faith in the young batter, who impressed in her debut season and led her U19 side to a T20 World Cup victory.

Prasad initially made a name for herself as a power-hitter but has since refined her game to focus on batting for longer periods. This shift in approach paid off in her WPL debut, where she scored a crucial 35 off 33 balls at No.6 against Mumbai Indians, earning her the Player of the Match award.

The 19-year-old captained the U19 side to a T20 World Cup triumph in Malaysia earlier this year, demonstrating her leadership skills. Her high-pressure performance in the previous WPL season, coupled with her domestic captaincy role, likely played a significant part in Delhi's decision to retain her. Prasad's improved fitness routine and focus on power-hitting, following her exclusion from the 2023 U19 T20 World Cup, also caught the team's eye.

Delhi Capitals have invested INR 50 lakh in Prasad, a significant increase from the INR 10 lakh she was bought for in the previous auction. The team's management believes in her potential and expects her to continue making vital contributions in high-pressure situations.
