Delegation from the partner region of Podkarpackie visiting Saarland's parliament, the Landtag
The Landtag President of Saarland, Heike Winzent, recently welcomed a delegation from the Polish partner region, Podkarpackie Voivodeship, to the Saarland State Parliament. The visit, which took place from August 31 to September 3, 2024, was part of a mutual exchange between the two regions.
The delegation, led by Jerzy Borcz, chairman of the regional assembly of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, embarked on a series of visits aimed at fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. The program included a joint meeting between the Committee for Europe and IPR Affairs of the Saarland State Parliament and the Committee for Foreign Relations, Tourism, and Location Marketing of the Voivodeship Podkarackie.
The group visited several significant locations, such as the European Academy Otzenhausen, University of Applied Sciences, the German-Luxembourgish Schengen Lyceum in Perl, and the European Monument. The ecological school camp Spohns House in Gersheim, which serves as a meeting place for German-Polish and German-French youth, was also on the itinerary.
Saarland and the Voivodeship Podkarackie maintain a very lively partnership that has expanded to many areas. Heike Winzent believes that only a strong, united Europe can resist external threats, and this partnership is a testament to that belief.
The ecological school camp Spohns House in Gersheim is not only a hub for youth exchange but also the central office of the German-Polish Youth Work. The visit to this camp underscores the commitment of both regions to fostering youth engagement and cross-cultural understanding.
The delegation's itinerary also included visits to several companies as part of the program. No specific details about the purpose or expansion of the partnership between Saarland and the Voivodeship Podkarackie were disclosed during this visit.
