Delegates Gathering for Ski and Snowboard Federation Discussions in Portugal

An international meeting focusing on environmental sustainability in skiing and snowboarding is unfolding at the Algarve Congress Center until Friday. This event, hosted by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), aims to prepare and discuss the upcoming sports season while emphasizing nature and biodiversity protection and restoration.

This marks the first time the FIS is holding such an event in Portugal, with the previous congress, also slated for the country, having been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The FIS is the governing body for skiing and snowboarding worldwide, responsible for regulating, developing, and promoting these winter sports on a global scale.

The FIS seminar, titled "Bridging the Gaps: Building Inclusive Sports Leadership Together – Edition 2," intends to engage leaders and sustainability experts from National Ski Associations (NSAs) and Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) in implementing sustainable practices within their organizations and events. The seminar is led by FIS Sustainability Director Susanna Sieff, in collaboration with Sport4Nature and other prominent environmental and sports organizations.

The FIS has been increasingly focused on promoting sustainability and environmental protection within winter sports, making this event an important step towards greener practices in the industry.

The FIS seminar, taking place at the Algarve Congress Center in Portugal, is not only dedicated to preparing for the upcoming sports season, but also advocates for sustainable practices within skiing and snowboarding. This marks a significant move by the FIS, the governing body for these winter sports, to organize such an event in Portugal for the first time, shifting its focus towards environmental protection and inclusivity in sports leadership.
