Delay in Submission of Ekta Kapoor Investigation Report Causing Concern; Police Under Scrutiny over Delayed Action

In a recent development, a Mumbai court has issued a show cause notice to the Khar police for failing to submit an inquiry report in a criminal complaint filed against film and television producer Ekta Kapoor. The complaint alleges that one of Kapoor's web series on her OTT platform Alt Balaji showed a military officer engaging in an "illicit sexual act," which was considered disrespectful to Indian soldiers.

The magistrate's court in Bandra, Mumbai, had directed the Khar police to conduct an inquiry under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a provision that empowers a magistrate to carry out an inquiry or direct the police to do so. The probe report was due on May 9, 2025, but the police missed this deadline, leading to the court's current action.

The complaint was filed by YouTuber Vikas Pathak, also known as 'Hindustani bhau,' who named not only Kapoor but also her parents, Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor, and her OTT platform Alt Balaji, in the complaint. The complaint was made through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh in May 2020.

The complaint accuses the accused of targeting the dignity and pride of the country. Specifically, it alleges that a military uniform in one of the series' episodes had the national emblem on it, which is seen as a disrespectful portrayal of the military.

As of now, no new detailed response from the Khar police regarding the delay or the substance of the investigation has been made public. The court's issuing of the show cause notice indicates pressure on the police to complete and submit the inquiry promptly. The current status of the show cause notice related to Ekta Kapoor is that it remains outstanding, awaiting the police's response.

General-news outlets are discussing the outstanding show cause notice issued by a Mumbai court to the Khar police, as they failed to submit an inquiry report concerning a criminal complaint against Ekta Kapoor, a renowned entertainment figure. The complaint, filed by YouTuber Vikas Pathak, also accuses Kapoor's parents and her OTT platform Alt Balaji, alleging that one of Kapoor's web series showed a military officer engaging in an "illicit sexual act," considered disrespectful to Indian soldiers, and portrayed the military in a disrespectful manner by displaying the national emblem on a military uniform in an episode.
