The nomination of Mike Waltz as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations remains undecided, with no confirmation vote yet scheduled. Announced more than four months ago, Waltz's nomination has been held up by political factors and internal opposition or delays in the confirmation process.

Waltz, a former Republican congressman, was initially nominated as Trump's national security adviser but was removed following the "Signalgate" controversy. Since then, he has been serving as an advisor from the White House, earning an annual salary of $195,000. However, his continued employment with the White House is yet to be confirmed by the authorities.

The White House has not confirmed whether Waltz is still on the payroll, and the General Assembly and high-level meetings are already scheduled to take place, but it's unlikely that Waltz's full confirmation vote will happen until later this month at the earliest due to the government funding deadline.

Democrats have been trying to slow down the confirmation process for Trump's nominees using procedural maneuvers, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee recently voted 11-10 to send Waltz's nomination to the full Senate. Despite this, the Senate has yet to schedule a vote on Waltz's confirmation.

The findings of the Defense Department's review into the Signal chat episode involving Waltz could potentially put his nomination in jeopardy. The department's inspector general is conducting an internal review of the matter, but no specific timeline has been given for the completion of the review or for the confirmation vote of Mike Waltz.

The U.N. ambassador position has fluctuated between Cabinet and non-Cabinet level at the discretion of different presidents. Trump moved the role back to a non-Cabinet level after Nikki Haley left the position. If confirmed, Waltz would live in a multimillion-dollar penthouse in Manhattan as the U.N. ambassador, but he cannot move into the U.N. ambassador's residence until he is confirmed.

With a government funding deadline looming, it remains to be seen when Waltz's full confirmation vote will take place. As of now, Waltz is the highest-ranking Trump nominee awaiting confirmation. President Donald Trump has not yet appointed an ambassador to the United Nations eight months into his term.
