Delaware County Fair Exhibits Tribute to Veterans
The Delaware County Fair recently took a significant step in recognising the sacrifices and service of its local veterans, with the inaugural Veterans Appreciation ceremony held in collaboration with the Delaware County Veterans Affairs on Thursday, July 15, 2025.
The event was designed to express gratitude and recognition to men and women who have served in the armed forces. The ceremony included the presentation of Veterans Honor Awards to deserving local veterans, and the community was encouraged to nominate veterans for the ceremony.
Notable attendees included Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, who extended her congratulations to the honorees, marking her support for the initiative. State Senator Dan Zumbach also spoke to the attendees, sharing a personal story of a veteran close to him.
Among the honorees were veterans like Julie Kueter, Larry Beaman, Harry Ries, Doug Dobroski, and several others who were recognised for their continued service. While specific honorees were not named in the provided information, the ceremony aimed to recognise and celebrate the contributions of all local veterans.
Larry Beaman, who served more than 20 years in both Active Duty and Reserve Duty, was unexpectedly recognised during the ceremony. Doug Dobroski, a Marine sniper during the Vietnam era, also received recognition. Other veterans honoured but not in attendance included Bernard "Bernie" Pasker, Bill Williams, and Marvin Waterhouse.
The ceremony was just one of several special events held during the Delaware County Fair this year. Other events included the celebration of Century and Heritage farms on Wednesday, and Hometown Heroes on Friday.
Julie Kueter expressed her service as a lifetime of admiration for those who served before her, while Doug Dobroski views his service as a lifetime commitment. This event serves as a meaningful way to acknowledge the sacrifices and service of local veterans and highlights the community's appreciation for them.
