DEL2 Season in Dusseldorf Postponed - Explaining the Cause

Cross the Rhine and get ready for some intense ice hockey action, folks! The preliminary schedule for the Düsseldorf EG's return to the DEL2 has been announced. Here's the scoop!

The Düsseldorf EG, after their demotion from the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), will kick off their second-chance season with a hometown derby against the Starbulls Rosenheim on the 19th of September. This highly anticipated battle will take place in the PSD Bank Dome, a location where camaraderie between the two clubs' fan bases has grown strong over the years.

But here's the twist - due to a military music festival in the Düsseldorf arena between the 19th to 21st of September, the home opener has been postponed. The game will now take place on Tuesday, 23rd September, instead.

Prepare for a trip to EHC Freiburg, as the Düsseldorf EG will embark on their first second-division game in over 25 years on the 21st of September. Their new coach, Rick Chernomaz, and his team will start the season on the road. Moreover, several other game dates have been tentatively scheduled.

The Düsseldorf EG will also face off against the Krefeld Pinguines for the first time in over four years on the 10th of October in Krefeld. The second game between the Rhineland rivals will take place on the 30th of November in Düsseldorf.

Looking forward to the holiday season, the promotion favorites, the Kassel Huskies, will visit Düsseldorf on Boxing Day (26th December). This traditional duel between the two clubs, which regularly faced off in the DEL until 2010, will surely be a highpoint of the season.

The final regular season match is currently set for the 8th of March against the Lausitzer Füchse, away. By then, it will be clear whether the Düsseldorf EG will be vying for DEL promotion or fighting against relegation to the DEL2.

It's essential to note that already announced game dates may still be subject to change, as all clubs are reviewing potential date conflicts with other events in their multi-purpose arenas.
