A Fresh Take on the Russian-Ukrainian Ceasefire

Defense Ministry records reveal over 9,300 instances of ceasefire disregard.

The Russian military claims a whopping 9318 instances of Ukraine violating the ceasefire, according to their Defense Ministry[1]. This alleged violation reportedly occurred through artillery, tank, and mortar shelling, as well as multiple rocket systems. Beyond that, over 6,000 drone strikes and bomb drops have been recorded[2].

Russia has stuck to the three-day ceasefire declared for May 9, ostensibly remaining in the previously occupied lines[3]. Yet, they warn that they will retaliate against any aggression by Ukrainian forces, citing instances like the Sumy region strike on territorial defense brigades not abiding by the temporary truce[4]. In addition, they repelled attacks in the DNR and LNR regions.

While Russia's claim of a ceasefire holds, Ukraine remains unconvinced and continues its rejections[5]. President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed it as a theatrical production and advocated for a 30-day ceasefire with monitoring mechanisms, echoing sentiments shared by the USA and European countries[6]. The Kremlin suggests that if the ceasefire is honored, supplies of weapons to Ukraine should cease[7].

However, little is known about how persistently both sides have kept their word regarding this ceasefire. Ukraine's cautious acceptance of temporary, unilateral ceasefires underscores the need for a robust, long-term solution to this ongoing conflict[1][2].

  1. The Russian Defense Ministry's claim of 9318 ceasefire violations by Ukraine, mirroring war-and-conflicts politics, has been met with skepticism, as President Volodymyr Zelensky, crime-and-justice news, and international allies question its authenticity.
  2. The recent ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the general news has been a subject of debate, with Russian attacks on Ukrainian forces, including artillery, tanks, mortars, and drone strikes, being countered by Ukraine's defense.
  3. The 2669 ceasefire, a controversial topic in politics, has seen both Russia and Ukraine accusing each other of violations, raising concerns about the ongoing Russia-Ukrainian war-and-conflicts and the need for a long-term, robust solution.
  4. Beyond the recorded attacks and shelling, the Sumy region strike on territorial defense brigades, a significant violation of the 2669 ceasefire, has led to tense relations between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides threatening retaliation.
  5. As the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine continues to be tenuous, the Kremlin suggests that a lasting solution could be achieved if Ukraine adheres to the ceasefire and the supply of weapons to Ukraine ceases, a proposal met with resistance from Ukraine and its allies in crime-and-justice and general news circles.
