Israeli Defense Minister Approves Large-Scale Operation to Occupy Gaza City

The Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has approved a plan named "Gideon's Chariots B" to occupy Gaza City, mobilizing approximately 60,000 reservists to carry out the operation. This plan is part of a broader offensive to control Gaza City and is expected to involve large-scale military deployment and the displacement of around 1 million Palestinians in the area.

The approval of this plan follows Prime Minister Netanyahu’s proposal, which was endorsed by the Israeli security cabinet in early August 2025. The objectives set by the Israeli government include disarming Hamas, returning all hostages (both living and deceased), demilitarizing Gaza, maintaining full Israeli security control post-conflict, and establishing an alternative civilian government not affiliated with Hamas or the Palestinian Authority. The offensive to occupy Gaza City is expected to take several months.

One of the central objectives of the operation is the return of hostages held by Hamas. However, the families of some hostages and elements within the Israeli military leadership have expressed concerns over civilian suffering and operational risks.

Hamas has condemned the occupation plan, calling it a blatant escalation and warning of severe consequences. The group maintains its position amid ongoing hostilities, with reports stressing the dire conditions for civilians in Gaza.

International human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have strongly criticized the Israeli plan, describing it as leading to further mass atrocities and violations of international law, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which is already suffering under severe conditions due to the conflict and blockade.

The city of Gaza, located in the Gaza Strip, and the refugee camp Al-Mawasi, situated in the center of the Gaza Strip, are set to be occupied by the Israeli army. The occupation of Al-Mawasi refugee camp is part of the Israeli army's plan to occupy the city of Gaza.

According to Hamas authorities, over 62,000 people have been killed so far in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli military operations. Nearly two years later, Hamas still holds 49 hostages in the Palestinian territory, with an estimated 22 still alive.

The primary objective of the Israeli army's operations in the city of Gaza is to decisively defeat the radical Islamic group Hamas. The Israeli army has made a statement regarding the occupation of the city of Gaza, but no new information about the city's occupation plan is provided.

The Hamas and its allies launched an unprecedented large-scale attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in over 1,200 people being killed and 251 people being taken hostage to the Gaza Strip. Israel has been conducting massive military operations in the Gaza Strip since the attack.

These figures cannot be independently verified but are considered realistic by the United Nations.
