Israeli Defense Minister Announces Jewish State in West Bank, Sparking International Reaction

Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has declared the intention to establish an Israeli state in the occupied West Bank, a move that has provoked international scrutiny and criticism. On Thursday, the Israeli government announced plans to construct 22 new settlements in the region, which is considered illegal under international law.

During a visit to the northern Palestinian territory today, Katz stated, "We will build the Jewish Israeli state here on this land." His announcement is perceived as a firm response to terrorist organizations that aim to undermine Israeli control over the land, as well as a clear message to French President Emmanuel Macron and other mediating countries. Macron, in turn, has emphasized the creation of a Palestinian state as a moral and political necessity under certain conditions.

France, along with Saudi Arabia, is set to host an international conference on the two-state solution in mid-June. This proposed solution envisions the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. The ongoing conflict, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where all residents are threatened with famine, adds urgency to the discussions.

In the wake of the Israeli Defense Minister's announcement, the United Kingdom has condemned Israel's actions. British politician Hamish Falconer, the Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, expressed the UK's disapproval of the plan. Many international lawmakers view the expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied territories as an obstacle to the two-state solution and a violation of international law.

The establishment of new settlements is seen as a strategic move by Israel to consolidate its control over the West Bank, preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state. The plan includes the legalization of existing outposts and the re-establishment of evacuated settlements like Homesh and Sa-Nur.

The European Union, fully committed to the development of a common foreign and security policy, has raised concerns over the Israeli Defense Minister's announcement of a Jewish Israeli state in the West Bank, viewing the expansion of Israeli settlements as an obstacle to the two-state solution and a violation of international law. The ongoing West Bank conflict, with the potential for war-and-conflicts, remains a focal point of general news and political discourse, especially as tensions escalate following the announcement.
