Defense leader Tah on the job: "The position's responsibilities need to be clarified"
"Football Champs, Bayern Munich Welcome New Defender - Jonathan Tah"
Orlando - Fresh off the ink of his four-year contract, national player Jonathan Tah is ready to make his mark on German football giants, FC Bayern Munich. Despite not viewing himself as an immediate frontrunner for the defensive leadership title, Tah slammed the table on his ambitions for a leadership role. "I ain't shy about takin' charge," he asserted during his official presentation at the Club.
Uncertain about the label "defensive leader," Tah believes it's a mantle that must be earned through raw determination and sweat equity. "I'm a guy who puts in the grind. Guess we'll see if I can hang the shingle out as the big boss!"
Max Eberl, Bayern's sports director, and Christoph Freund had a sit-down with Tah to divulge the team's plans for him. Freund affectionately tagged Tah as an "absolute dream player" and a "leader" in the team during the debutant's presentation at the team hotel.
Tah had been instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen's recent successes for the past two years, as per Freund's account. With Tah on board to challenge himself in Munich, he aims to replicate that winning formula. "I'm here to push my limits and, yeah, I've been the driver in Leverkusen. But, like I said, I gotta earn the stripes here with hard work."
Though Tah had a brief respite with the other Munich nationals post-Nations League and only landed stateside on Thursday, he's gunning for a debut as early as Sunday against Auckland City. "I'm good to go. Can't wait to settle in quick and make a splash!"
