Tah's Bayern Dream: On a Mission to Lead
Defense Chief Tah Stresses Need for Role Clarification
Orlando - National powerhouse, Jonathan Tah, bike-wise doesn't see himself as the go-to defensive guru at FC Bayern Munich. Yet, he didn't shy away from expressing his ambitions for a leadership role during his official presentation at the throbbing football behemoth ahead of the Club World Cup kickoff. "Of course, I'm hankering for responsibility," he said, adding that he'd rather let his hard work do the talking over fancy titles.
He's not particularly keen on the catchphrase "defensive warrior," arguing that earning such a prestigious role within the team takes more than just a fancy label. "I'm someone who's up for the challenge," he added, with a determined smirk.
Freundy Loves a Dreamboat
Max Eberl and sporting director, Christoph Freund, have made it more than clear to Tah what potential role he could carve out in the squad. Freund, himself, described the free transfer newcomer as not just an "absolute dream boat" but also a "nautical commander" during the presentation at the team hotel.
Tah, a 37-times national player, had been a key asset in why Bayer Leverkusen had been so solid and successful in the past two years, according to Freund. With an eye on the horizon, Tah intends to emulate and even elevate that success in Munich. "I came to sprint against the current and push my limits," he underscored. "I reckon I know the drill from Leverkusen, but as I said, I need to work for it."
Despite having three relaxing days off with the other Munich national players following the Nations League and only landing in the USA on Thursday, Tah is raring to go for his Bayern debut as early as Sunday (6:00 PM/Sat.1 and DAZN) in the inaugural group match of the Club World Cup against Auckland City. "I'm all systems go," he said, with a steely glint in his eyes.

Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, recognizing Tah's potential, have envisioned a role for him as a 'nautical commander' in FC Bayern Munich's squad.
