Paris, France - French prosecutors have requested that Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) footballer, stand trial over a rape allegation made against him in the spring of 2023. The alleged incident occurred at Hakimi's home in Nanterre, a Paris suburb.

The case has gained significant attention, with the alleged victim, a 24-year-old woman, meeting Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023. On the night in question, she was driven to Hakimi's house in a taxi that he paid for.

The alleged rape occurred in the spring of 2023, and the case has been taken up due to its severity, despite the alleged victim not initially filing a complaint. Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer for the alleged victim, has commented on the news to AFP.

Hakimi, who has been playing for PSG since 2021, having previously been with Borussia Dortmund from 2018 to 2020, is currently under judicial supervision and is allowed to leave French territory. His lawyer, Fanny Colin, has expressed strong disagreement with the request for a trial, calling it "incomprehensible and senseless." If a trial occurs, Hakimi's team will exhaust all legal remedies.

The alleged victim's lawyer welcomed the prosecution's step as a relief. If found guilty, Hakimi could face significant penalties under French law. This development comes at a critical time for Hakimi, who reached the semifinals of the World Cup in Qatar last year with Morocco's national team.

It is important to note that in France, an indictment does not necessarily lead to a trial. The case will now be reviewed by an investigating judge, who will decide whether there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial.

This news serves as a reminder of the importance of respect and consent in all interactions, especially in high-profile situations. As the case progresses, it is crucial that all parties involved are treated fairly and with due process.
