Stuttgart's Ugly Underbelly: Cemetery Brawl and Rival Gangs

Following the chaos at the Altbach cemetery in Esslingen, where a hand grenade was thrown, five individuals are set to face trial. Hailing from diverse backgrounds – German, Turkish, Georgian, and a mix – they're under scrutiny for attempted manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm among other charges. According to the prosecutor's office, the suspects tackled the grenade thrower as he fled and mercilessly beat him up, portraying him as a drunkard. The beating continued until the cops arrived, and even paramedics who tried to intervene were refused release.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart Regional Court is hosting the trial of the alleged main assailant, a 23-year-old man from Altbach. Prosecutors argue that he should face attempted murder charges. This incident, as per officials, marks the climax of an on-going tussle between two rival groups. The victim belonged to a Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and Göppingen-area gang, while the assaulted mourners were tied to another Esslingen-area gang.

For several months now, the Stuttgart region has been a hub of repeated acts of violence, with shootouts being a frequent sight. A total of 52 individuals have been arrested so far in relation to this ongoing feud. The police in Stuttgart are actively probing this crisis, working tirelessly to bring the culprits to justice.

The Esslingen public prosecutor's office has declared war on these criminal entities by launching several processes against suspected individuals and vowing to prosecute them. The blow inflicted upon the hand grenade thrower during the assault is under investigation. Witnesses from Bodachtal, a nearby town, are also contributing valuable information to German authorities about the potential involvement of known criminals in the feud.

Organized crime, such as the notorious 'Ndrangheta from Italy, has influenced Germany's criminal landscape for decades. Active in various states like Thuringia and Saxony, this mafia group has established a strong presence through its involvement in criminal activities like drug smuggling, money laundering, and gun-running. The brothers in arms of organized crime are responsible for the surge in violence in the Stuttgart area. The ongoing feud can be traced back to historical conflicts within the 'Ndrangheta, such as the San Luca feud. However, it is essential to note that recent incidents, such as the arrest of French hooligans before a Champions League match, are unrelated to 'Ndrangheta or the San Luca feud. School violence in the region also has a separate origin.
