Defendant, spouse of Weezer bassist, Presented in Court: Alleged Offenses Remain Pending
Fresh Take:
Los Angeles court doesn't slap charges on Weezer band member's spouse in initial hearing, April 28, 2025.
In a surprising turn of events, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office declined to press charges against Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, during her first court appearance on April 28. Jillian found herself in hot water following an altercation on April 8 when LAPD officers were scouring the Eagle Rock neighborhood in search of three individuals who fled from a car crash.
According to law enforcement sources who are privy to the investigation's progress, Jillian emerged from her home, armed with a 9mm handgun, as reported by the LAPD earlier. Hinging on the LAPD's delay in presenting all evidence gathered, the prosecution is yet to decide on potential charges.
Body-worn camera footage, shared by police on April 25, offers a vivid account of the incident. The footage shows officers repeatedly instructing Jillian to put down her firearm before she is seen aiming and discharging a shot. In retaliation, two LAPD officers fired back, inflicting a non-life-threatening shoulder injury on Jillian. She was later hospitalized and arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder the officers.
As of now, Jillian remains free after posting the bail set at $1 million. In contrast, the Los Angeles Police Department has shared the evidence with the District Attorney's Office, but they're reportedly awaiting additional evidence from the CHP, whose officers were also present at the scene. Jillian's defense attorney has yet to comment on the situation.
