Diddy's Sexual Exploitation Trial Kicks Off in Manhattan Court

Anxious in the Manhattan courtroom - Defendant Shows Signs of Anxiety During Trial in Manhattan Court

It's all eyes on the Manhattan courtroom as the high-profile trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs (55) commences, leaving the public buzzing. In this very court, the rap mogul confessed to feelings of unease before Judge Arun Subramanian (46), as the trial begins.

Monday marked the beginning of jury selection, with opening statements set for May 12. The courtroom saw around three dozen New Yorkers in attendance, being questioned about their knowledge of the case surrounding Diddy. Prospective jurors were presented with over 100 locations and individuals, including stars like Michael B. Jordan (38), Mike Myers (61), and Kanye West (47), who might appear during the trial. They were questioned about their familiarity with these names to check their impartiality. Notably, the list included several women, including Diddy's former girlfriend Cassie Ventura (38) and singer Dawn Richard (41), who was part of his hip-hop group from 2009 to 2012.

Jury Selection Underway

Several questions centered around a 2016 video showcasing Diddy attacking his ex-partner in a Los Angeles hotel hallway, which was made public by CNN last year. Initially, Diddy's defense team tried to exclude this video as evidence.

Once the jury of twelve individuals is chosen, they'll deliberate whether the hip-hop tycoon exploited his power and influence to sexually harm women over a 20-year period, as the prosecution's five-point indictment alleges.

Not Guilty Plea from Diddy

Diddy has been detained since mid-September 2024. The prosecution accuses the 55-year-old of sex trafficking, organized crime, and other offenses, claiming he forced women, among them Ventura, to take part in drug-fueled sexual encounters with male sex workers, which he orchestrated and filmed as "Freak Offs." Diddy denies all accusations and pleads "not guilty."

On the first day of jury selection, Diddy appeared dressed in a black turtleneck sweater, a white collared shirt, and charcoal gray pants. Diddy's lawyers had previously secured his permission to wear his own clothes. Upon entering the courtroom, he hugged and exchanged handshakes with his legal team, comprising Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos.

Throughout the proceedings, Diddy nodded or shook his head in response to various questions. When his attorneys requested a bathroom break, Diddy apologized to Judge Subramanian, who had initially wished to defer the break, acknowledging, "I'm a bit nervous today."

This trial is expected to last approximately eight weeks.
