Defeat for Conservatives: Liberals Secure Victory in Canadian Polls under Trump's Watch

A Shocking Twist in Canada's 2025 Federal Election

Mark Carney, a renowned economist with a remarkable international career, has led the Liberals to victory in Canada's 45th federal election in 2025. This historic win has marked a significant shift, with Carney taking over from Justin Trudeau as the new Prime Minister of Canada.

Early Tuesday morning, Carney declared his victory, expressing his eagerness to work constructively with all parties in Parliament. The Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, conceded defeat and congratulated Carney on his hard-earned victory. With approximately 95% of the votes counted, Carney's party secured 43.2% of the vote, while the Conservatives under Poilievre received 41.7%.

Due to time zone differences within Canada, polling stations closed at various times. Although votes are still being counted, the Liberals are leading with 164 ridings where they have won or are ahead, while the Conservatives under Poilievre have 147. A majority government requires 172 of the total 343 seats in Parliament.

In his victory speech in the capital Ottawa, Carney addressed the nation, stating, "Let's put an end to the division and anger of the past. We are all Canadians, and my government will work for and with all of you." Together, they would build a Canada worthy of its values. "Canada strong, Canada free, Canada forever."

The Canadian election campaign was overshadowed by the trade dispute initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump and his threats to make Canada the 51st state of the USA. Trump reiterated his annexation plans for Canada on social media, which sparked a wave of patriotism in Canada, benefiting Carney's Liberals, even before the election overtook the previous prediction of a Liberal loss.

Other key campaign issues included the sharp rise in the cost of living, increasing rents, access to affordable housing, healthcare, and migration. The election took place in the wake of a tragic incident in Vancouver, the West Coast metropolis: A man drove a car into a crowd at a Filipino community street festival, killing at least 11 people. A 30-year-old suspect was arrested, and police stated that they believed the incident was not an act of terrorism.

The political style of the conservative frontrunner Poilievre, who advocates for low taxes and cuts to government spending, bears clear Trump influences, as he spoke of "fake news," "woke ideology" of leftist forces, and promised to always put Canada first. This resonated well for a long time, until Trump came along.

As the 60-year-old Carney brings national and international crisis experience to the table, having led the Canadian central bank during the financial crisis and serving as the central bank chief in the UK during the turbulent Brexit phase, Canadians trust him the most to stand up to Trump. This political shift may signal a new era for Canada-U.S. relations.

  1. Mark Carney, the new Prime Minister of Canada, urged Canadians to put an end to division and anger in his victory speech, emphasizing that they are all Canadians, regardless of their political affiliations.
  2. Despite the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre receiving a close vote count of 41.7% in the 2025 federal election, they were unable to secure a majority government, with the Liberals leading with 164 ridings won or ahead, requiring only 8 more seats to form a majority government.
  3. The Liberals' victory was partly influenced by the Trump administration's trade dispute and threats to annex Canada, which sparked a wave of patriotism in Canada and boosted Carney's political campaign, despite previous election predictions suggesting a Liberal loss.
  4. In the general news and policy-and-legislation sectors, the 2025 federal election focused on various issues, including the sharp rise in the cost of living, increasing rents, access to affordable housing, healthcare, and migration, with the Liberals vying to address these concerns in their turbulent zones of responsibility.
