The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) held a crisis meeting on August 1, 2025, at its headquarters in Karen, Nairobi. The meeting, however, was without the involvement of Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa and his allies, as reported by sources.

The gathering, convened by allies of DAP-K deputy party leader George Natembeya, focused on addressing emerging leadership disputes within the party. The key agenda was a petition filed on July 31, 2025, seeking Natembeya's removal and expulsion from the party, alleging he was funding and promoting another political party, Conservation for Democracy in Kenya (CoD-K), through proxies.

Despite the serious internal dispute, the party leadership acknowledged the issue and referred all petitions to the Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) for urgent handling. This move is aimed at ensuring party activities continue uninterrupted and the party can focus on upcoming by-elections.

The current crisis is part of a broader leadership struggle between Wamalwa and Natembeya, which has escalated from ideological differences into a bitter power battle threatening DAP-K's cohesion. The internal conflict includes accusations of domineering leadership, financial mismanagement against Wamalwa, and mutual efforts to undermine each other’s influence within the party.

It is worth noting that Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, one of the key figures convening the meeting, was absent from the gathering. Furthermore, sources indicate that Wamalwa's close allies were not invited to the meeting, a move that further signals growing internal divisions within the DAP-K's top leadership.

In summary, the crisis meeting within the DAP-K was held to address leadership disputes, with the key agenda being the removal of George Natembeya. The party leadership referred the matter to the IDRM for urgent resolution, and the event serves as a sign of the deepening rift within the party's top leadership.
