Deepening bilateral relations, Kuwait and Somalia inked two Memorandums of Understanding.
Kuwait and Somalia have taken a significant step forward in their relationship, as they signed three key agreements on August 12, 2025, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across diplomatic, political, and training sectors.
The agreements were the result of a high-level meeting between Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya and Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali during the Somali minister's official visit to Kuwait.
The first agreement established a Joint Committee that will oversee and accelerate bilateral cooperation by identifying and implementing joint projects and initiatives, and meeting regularly to ensure progress on shared interests.
The second agreement was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Regular Bilateral Consultations. This framework commits both countries to hold consistent high-level talks on political, economic, and security issues, enabling coordination on regional and international matters and addressing mutual challenges.
The third agreement was a Memorandum of Cooperation between Diplomatic Training Institutes. Kuwait’s Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute and Somalia’s Diplomatic Studies Institute agreed to collaborate on training diplomats and sharing expertise, with the aim of enhancing the professionalism and skills of Somalia’s foreign service officers.
During their discussions, the ministers also reviewed the strong ties between their countries and explored ways to boost partnership, including a shared interest in regional stability and development in the Middle East and Horn of Africa areas. They exchanged views on the latest developments in the region.
The partnership between Kuwait and Somalia will not only grow diplomatically but also economically. The ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in various fields, with the aim of expanding the partnership across political domains.
