Ready for a Big Call: Kyren Wilson Contemplates Next Move after Surprising World Snooker Exit

Snooker sensation Kyren Wilson, 33, is weighing his options after a jaw-dropping defeat in the opening round of this year's World Snooker Championship. The reigning champion, last year's victor, fell short against debutant Lei Peifan, resulting in a 10-9 loss.

Ranked second worldwide, Wilson's recent impressive form included four ranking titles. His defeat, however, came unexpectedly, leaving him to question his future in the game.

After his lengthy season, Wilson, who has been playing non-stop, admits he's missed his family dearly and could use a break. This possible hiatus might mean foregoing his BBC coverage commitments.

"Straight up, I don't fancy snooker one bit right now!" he stated, visibly shaken by the loss. "Family time is calling."

A Reflection on Defeat and Difficult Days

"It's been a marathon season. With my family in the picture, I've been missing them terribly. It's tough, no doubt," Wilson acknowledged.

"Snooker is my life, my passion. I've strived to be the sport's best ambassador, but post-Crucible, I need some quality family time."

Wilson's powerful record at the Crucible has suffered a significant blow, leaving many wondering if the Snooker Gods turned against him.

Should Wilson choose to stay at the Crucible and continue his work with the BBC, he might cross paths with Shaun Murphy, who was involved in a spat with Wilson following a practice room incident at the 2025 Masters final.

"Shaun knows exactly what he did. It wasn't about performance, he was fantastic. It's more about acceptance," Wilson said during Good Friday.

"During the practice room session, there was some rules violated. It didn't affect the game, but it wasn't right."

A Twist in Friendship

"Murphy, the master behind the incident, knows the rules. He's an incredible player, but he slipped up," Wilson added.

"The incident took place before the final, and it wasn't affecting the game. We had a conversation about it then and there.

"I helped Shaun out when he needed backup. He was living in Ireland and needed a place to practice. So, I was genuinely hurt by that.

"But there's no animosity. I respect Shaun as a player and a man."

A Baffled Murphy's Response

"I'm utterly puzzled. I was simply getting a haircut, minding my own business. Wilson's sudden remarks left me dumbfounded," said Murphy.

"He had months to voice his concern, but choosing this moment and airing it publicly was strange. He could have spoken up earlier.

"I was disappointed by his actions as a fellow professional. I'd rather discuss issues face-to-face instead of public speculation."
