Germany's Defense Minister Remains Most Popular Among Cabinet Members

In a recent survey conducted among a representative sample of the German population, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius continues to lead in terms of net satisfaction among cabinet members. The survey, which was conducted in October, revealed that Boris Pistorius has a net satisfaction score of +1, making him the only federal minister in Germany with a positive score.

Despite a slight decrease in popularity since September, Boris Pistorius remains relatively stable. Approximately 31% of Germans are very satisfied with Defense Minister Pistorius' work, while 30% are very dissatisfied, marking an increase of 1.5% in dissatisfaction compared to the previous survey.

The net satisfaction score of +1 for Boris Pistorius is consistent with the scores of other cabinet members, who have not seen a significant change in their net satisfaction scores since the last survey. Labor Minister Bárbara Bas, for example, maintains a net satisfaction score of -31, while Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul's score remains at -28.

Johann Wadephul, a German politician of the CDU, has been serving as Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs since May 6, 2025, in the Merz cabinet.

The overall trend suggests a slight decrease in satisfaction and an increase in dissatisfaction across the German cabinet. This is reflected in the fact that no other cabinet member has seen a significant change in their net satisfaction score since the last survey.

Despite the slight decrease in popularity, Boris Pistorius remains the most popular federal minister in Germany. He leads in terms of net satisfaction among cabinet members, a position he has held for several months.

The survey results underscore the continued support for Boris Pistorius as Defense Minister, despite a slight decrease in satisfaction. As the German population navigates challenging times, the consistency of Boris Pistorius' net satisfaction score is a testament to his leadership and dedication to his role.
